Brian, this is all for you
In July astronomers reported the discovery of Xena, a possible 10th planet in our solar system out beyond Pluto in the Kuiper Belt, a band of space that contains comets, asteroids, and other big space rocks. Now Reuters is reporting that Xena (formally known as 2003 UB313) has a sidekick. Her name? You guessed it: Gabrielle. “Since the day we discovered Xena, the big question has been whether or not it has a moon,” the California Institute of Technology’s Michael Brown said in a statement. “Having a moon is just inherently cool—and it is something that most self-respecting planets have, so it is good to see that this one does too.” While we absolutely love the solar system’s new queer pairing, we object to Reuters’ description of the moon as a “dim little satellite.” Sidekicks have feelings too, you know.
